Sussexes' hopes for warm welcome dampened by locals' indifference
Harry and Meghan Markle may face a less-than-enthusiastic reception after buying a holiday home in Portugal. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reportedly made the purchase in the same area where their daughters reside, were seemingly hoping for a warmer response but have encountered a tepid reaction from the local community.
According to a seasoned estate agent in Alentejo, where the couple's new property is located, the purchase hasn’t stirred much excitement. "We have much richer and much more famous people buying here for sure," the agent commented, suggesting that the arrival of someone like Jeff Bezos would have garnered more attention than Harry and Meghan.
Rumours suggest the Sussexes may have spent around four million euros on the luxury estate. This comes after Meghan reportedly pushed for a move to Malibu, feeling that Montecito wasn't providing enough visibility.
In Portugal, the couple’s expectations for building significant connections might fall short, making the purchase less impactful than they had anticipated.
