Duke of Sussex Faces Backlash from Netflix Over His Low-Profile Role in New Series
Harry has reportedly angered Netflix executives with a daring move that could jeopardise his lucrative deal with the streaming giant.
Since signing with Netflix in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been under pressure to deliver high-profile content. After the success of their docuseries Harry & Meghan, Netflix expected more hits, but their latest project has left the company disappointed.
Harry’s new series, Polo, which focuses on his polo-playing friend Nacho Figueras, features minimal appearances from the Duke, frustrating viewers and the streaming platform. “People expected to see Harry in the spotlight, and his absence is a big letdown for Netflix,” a Hollywood producer explained.
Critics argue that without Harry in a starring role, the show fails to capture mainstream attention. The producer also pointed out that outside of their explosive docuseries, the couple’s other projects have been lacklustre.
Amid these challenges, Harry has shifted his focus to repairing his relationship with King Charles, particularly after his father’s cancer diagnosis. In a bid to maintain a peaceful connection with the royals, Harry and Meghan have reportedly toned down their public criticism of the monarchy, adding further strain to their Netflix commitments.
