In a statement accompanying the video, the Palace said, "The Royal Foundation has proudly supported Birtley Community Pool, funding refurbishment costs and providing bursaries to subsidise swimming lessons for primary-age children and lifeguard training for local teenagers." The Prince underscored the long-term positive impact the facility will have on the community, describing swimming as an essential life skill for the next generation.
William’s message comes as Catherine, the Princess of Wales, held a special meeting with a cancer patient at Windsor, marking her return to royal duties after completing her chemotherapy. Catherine, who announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, is now focused on remaining cancer-free as she resumes her role in public life.
