Rose Farquhar's Father, Friend to King Charles and Queen Camilla, Dies at 78

Retired Army captain Ian Farquhar was found dead after struggling with alcohol, inquest reveals tragic details.

Ian Farquhar, a close friend of King Charles and Queen Camilla and father of Prince William's first serious girlfriend, Rose Farquhar, died tragically at 78. The retired Army captain was discovered on March 6, trapped between his bed and a wall, with his legs elevated. An inquest linked his death to alcohol toxicity, postural asphyxia, and body inversion, revealing a blood alcohol level nearly five times the legal limit.

Farquhar had long battled health issues and an alcohol problem that developed later in life. His daughter Victoria testified that he consumed significant amounts of alcohol daily, a habit that started at hunting events. Despite attempts to curb his drinking, it persisted until his passing.

A memorial service in May at the Badminton Estate, attended by Queen Camilla and her former husband Andrew Parker Bowles, honoured Farquhar, remembered for his youthful spirit and lively nature. Currently, King Charles and Queen Camilla are in Samoa for the King’s first international tour since disclosing his cancer diagnosis.

Prince William and Rose Farquhar first met at the Beaufort Polo Club in 2000 and have remained on good terms over the years, often crossing paths at weddings and social gatherings.
