Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and ex-wife of Prince Andrew, has been honoured with a new patronage as she becomes the official patron of Prevent Breast Cancer, the UK's only charity dedicated solely to predicting and preventing the disease.
The Duchess, who successfully underwent a single mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, has since used her platform to raise awareness about the importance of early detection. In a heartfelt statement, she shared her personal experience with the illness, urging others to attend regular screenings and to take symptoms seriously.
In a post on her Instagram, Ferguson expressed her gratitude for the patronage, writing, "I’m honoured to be joining Prevent Breast Cancer and will do all I can to spread the word about early detection." The Duchess also highlighted the emotional challenges of facing a cancer diagnosis, calling it an overwhelming experience that naturally brings fear and uncertainty.
Ferguson’s daughters, their daughters, have stood by their mother throughout her cancer journey, and her commitment to advocating for early cancer detection has only grown stronger since her recovery.
