Royal biographer Robert Hardman’s latest book, Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, unveils details of the King’s journey, highlighting his "stoic reaction" to the diagnosis. According to Hardman, a senior aide revealed Charles’ determination, saying, “Cancer is a frightening word, whether you’re a king or not. But he faced it head-on, asking, ‘How do we proceed from here?’”
This is not the first time the King has encountered a cancer scare; a similar experience occurred during his years as Prince of Wales. His extensive involvement with cancer charities has deepened his understanding of the disease, adding a personal resonance to his current battle.
The Palace made the decision to disclose Charles’ diagnosis to the public, a move aimed at fostering solidarity with cancer sufferers. A staff member remarked, “Knowing the King is battling cancer brings a sense of connection and support to others facing similar struggles.”
After months of treatment, Charles is now ready to resume his royal duties, with a full schedule of public engagements planned, including a prospective visit to Canada next year. A Palace representative expressed that these upcoming tours have become “the perfect tonic” for the King, uplifting his spirits and energising him for the future.
