Distance from Prince Harry Due to "Sound Reasons," Reveals Royal Biographer
As King Charles marks his 76th birthday, the joy of his reign is tempered by an ongoing, strained relationship with his youngest son, Prince Harry, according to royal biographer Robert Hardman.
Despite his newfound sense of calm and fulfillment as monarch, the unresolved tension with Harry remains a quiet concern for Charles. The Duke of Sussex, now based in California, has not publicly shared any birthday wishes for his father, highlighting the continued distance between them.
In celebration of the King’s milestone, a traditional gun salute will ring out across London’s Green Park and the Tower of London. However, Hardman shared with GB News that while Charles is visibly content in his royal role, the fractured bond with Harry weighs on his mind.
Reflecting on their relationship, Hardman noted, “Most people in their late 70s would focus on mending family ties, but Charles’s duties as King provide a necessary distraction from these personal matters."
He emphasized that the distance is not due to a complete estrangement but stems from "very sound reasons." With Prince Harry living thousands of miles away and raising grandchildren the King rarely sees, Hardman believes Charles’s love for his son remains intact but is complicated by their diverging lives and the pressures of royal responsibilities.
