Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s New Residence Aims to Ease UK Access and Maintain European Ties
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly acquired a residence in Portugal’s Alentejo region, a strategic location near Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. This new base provides the couple with a convenient midpoint between the UK and California, potentially strengthening their connection to Europe.
According to Closer, Meghan views this decision as a proactive measure to safeguard her family’s interests, particularly given her concerns about potential Royal Family influence on Harry’s reintegration. A source revealed that Meghan is determined to stay involved, explaining, “She’s worried that the Royal Family might steer Harry back into the fold without her.”
In addition to providing a European foothold, the property may also allow the couple to secure an EU “Golden Visa,” which would ease their travel across Europe. Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, the Duke and Duchess have navigated complex ties with the Royal Family, recently intensified by Harry’s memoir, Spare, and revealing interviews. This move underscores their ongoing effort to balance independence with maintaining family connections.
