Tensions Rise as Duke of York Refuses to Leave Royal Lodge Amid Financial Dispute
Prince Andrew is reportedly preparing to stand his ground against King Charles in an escalating dispute over his residence and security funding. The Duke of York, who currently resides at Royal Lodge, has resisted the King’s suggestion to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, once home to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Following the removal of his £1 million annual allowance, Andrew now faces increased financial pressure but remains steadfast, insisting he has the means to cover his own security costs, even as they climb into seven figures. A close source told The Sun, “Prince Andrew is holding firm and is determined to stay in the Royal Lodge,” signaling an impending clash between the brothers.
The King had previously extended financial support to Andrew in 2019 after the Duke faced public backlash following his controversial interview regarding his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. However, Charles has now directed his Keeper of the Privy Purse to cut Andrew’s annual support and has ceased funding his costly private security team, further heightening the dispute.
Royal commentator Robert Hardman shared that had Queen Elizabeth II lived longer, she might have supported an eventual relocation for Andrew. In an updated edition of his biography Charles III: New King. New Court, Hardman reveals that King Charles took additional steps earlier this year by reducing Andrew’s security detail, underscoring the growing divide within the royal family.
