Harry and Meghan's Portugal Move May Open Doors for Family Reunion
Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, may finally have an opportunity to bond with their grandfather, King Charles III, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle consider a significant step to bridge their family gap.
Since Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to the US, tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family have left Archie and Lilibet without connections to their paternal grandparents, uncle William, aunt Kate, or their royal cousins.
According to former royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the Sussexes’ recent property purchase in Portugal could serve as a turning point for the children. Speaking to OK! magazine, Bond suggested that spending time in Europe might encourage Archie and Lilibet to explore their heritage and potentially visit the UK to meet their extended family.
“With Donald Trump potentially returning to the White House, Harry and Meghan might opt to spend more time at their Portugal property, especially during school holidays,” Bond noted.
The expert added, “It can only be good for the children to mix with at least some of their royal cousins. How curious and sad it would be for Archie and Lilibet to grow up knowing they are part of one of the most famous families in the world but remain estranged from almost all of them.”
Bond also highlighted the emotional toll this estrangement might have on King Charles. “It must be very hurtful for him that he doesn’t see his grandchildren in California, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” she said.
This update comes amid speculation that King Charles and Prince William may be softening their stance toward Harry, though no official confirmation has been made.
If reconciliation becomes a reality, it could pave the way for Archie and Lilibet to foster a relationship with their royal relatives, connecting them to their unique family legacy.
