Duke of Sussex Dubbed ‘Duke of Wails’ in Ongoing Legal Battle
Prince Harry has found himself at the centre of another controversy, as a court filing in Samantha Markle’s libel case against Meghan Markle mistakenly referred to him as the “Prince of Wales,” a title held by his brother, Prince William.
The mix-up prompted a sharp response from Samantha’s lawyer, Peter Ticktin, who sarcastically dubbed Harry the “Duke of Wails.” The quip came as part of Ticktin’s critique of Harry’s views and involvement in the ongoing legal drama.
Samantha Markle is suing Meghan for libel, alleging the Duchess of Sussex spread “false and malicious lies” about her upbringing, including claims that she grew up as an only child and crafted a “rags-to-royalty” narrative.
Although Samantha’s initial attempt to bring the case to Federal Court was dismissed, it has now moved to the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
Ticktin dismissed the significance of royal titles in the case, telling Newsweek, “To most of us Americans, we couldn’t give a tinker's damn as to whether that prince is the Duke of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, or the Duke of Earl.”
He also criticised Harry’s past comments about the First Amendment, saying, “We have a guy here in the United States who believes our 1st Amendment is ‘Bonkers’... while he’s one of 16 governors of a group called the Aspen Institute, who decide which statements on our internet should be deleted as misinformation.”
This legal saga continues to draw attention, blending sharp rhetoric, royal intrigue, and ongoing disputes over public narratives and family dynamics.
