Prince Harry Mistakenly Given William’s Title as Kate Middleton Skips Palace Event

Court Papers Refer to Harry as ‘Duke of Wales’ Amid Legal Blunder

Prince Harry has been mistakenly referred to as the "Duke of Wales" in court documents related to Samantha Markle's defamation lawsuit against Meghan Markle, sparking both confusion and humour.

The error appears in Samantha’s legal filing, where Harry is incorrectly attributed with the title held by his older brother, Prince William. Samantha’s lawyer, Peter Ticktin, acknowledged the mistake in an interview with Newsweek, downplaying the mix-up.

“To most Americans, we couldn’t give a tinker's d**k whether he’s the Duke of Wales, Sussex, or Earl,” Ticktin quipped, adding, “In fact, I wish I could say it was a spelling mistake when he should have been called the Duke of Wails.”

Ticktin further criticised Harry, referencing past remarks the Duke made about the US First Amendment. “This Duke is here as our guest, and his goal seems to be to control our speech,” he said, joking that Americans might instead nickname Harry the “Minister of Fiction.”

The legal mix-up comes as speculation swirls over Princess Kate’s absence from Buckingham Palace’s Diplomatic Corps reception on Tuesday, an event she has regularly attended. Prince William represented the royal family solo at the glittering occasion, attended by over 500 dignitaries.

Harry and Meghan Markle, now residing in California with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have remained in the spotlight since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Meanwhile, this latest court mishap has added a touch of levity to ongoing tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family.
