Prince Harry’s US Visa Future Under Scrutiny as Trump’s Administration Looms

Duke of Sussex Faces Uncertainty Amid Drug Use Admission and Immigration Debate

Prince Harry’s U.S. residency is facing renewed scrutiny as Donald Trump prepares to assume the presidency, raising concerns about the Duke of Sussex’s visa status.

Harry has been at the centre of controversy since admitting to past drug use in his memoir, Spare. U.S. law allows visa denial for such admissions, prompting the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation to file a lawsuit demanding the release of Harry’s immigration records. The lawsuit seeks to determine whether Harry disclosed his drug use during his application.

Trump’s recent appointment of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as head of the Department of Homeland Security has intensified speculation. Known for her strict immigration policies, Noem’s leadership could result in heightened scrutiny of cases like Harry’s.

Earlier this year, Trump criticised the Biden administration for allegedly shielding Harry’s immigration details, calling the protection “unnecessary.” Speaking to Express US, Trump stated, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. If it were up to me, he’d be on his own.”

In a GB News interview with Nigel Farage, Trump hinted at possible deportation, saying, “If he lied [on his application], they’ll have to take appropriate action. We’ll have to see.”

As Harry continues to navigate his life in California with Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Trump’s administration could bring significant challenges, further complicating the Sussexes’ future in the U.S.
