Prince of Wales Enjoys Rugby with Local Students and Former Rugby Stars for Earthshot Week
Prince William was in high spirits during his South Africa trip, enthusiastically playing rugby with school children while his wife, Princess Kate, remained in the UK after recently completing her cancer treatment.
As part of Earthshot Week in Cape Town, William took part in a rugby session with students from Ocean View, Masiphumelele, and Langa Townships. Highlights from the game, shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales’ office, captured the Prince’s animated interactions with the young players.
The future king also reunited with an old friend, former rugby player Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira, whom he first met in 2014 after a match between Wales and the Springboks. Joined by Springbok legends Joel Stransky and Percy Montgomery, William witnessed how rugby coaching and digital skills programs, supported by The Atlas Foundation charity, are empowering youth in underserved communities.
Earlier in his trip, William met with 120 young leaders and changemakers from Africa and Asia, who are dedicated to developing solutions to “repair the planet.” His visit highlights the power of sports and community in driving positive change among future generations.
