Future King Embraces Diana’s Legacy, Proving Harry’s Criticisms Wrong
Prince William has seemingly left his younger brother Harry “eating his words,” a royal commentator claims, after the debut of William's documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, aired on ITV. The Prince of Wales’s approach and vision for tackling homelessness have not only highlighted his leadership but also contradicted his brother’s portrayal of him in recent years.
Royal historian Dr Tessa Dunlop shared her thoughts after watching the documentary, noting that it presented William in a refreshing light. “With bright blue eyes, an open-necked shirt, and hands casually crossed, this was Prince William as we’ve never seen him before,” she said. Dunlop praised William's charm, charisma, and dedication to social causes, seeing in him the same “King of Hearts” quality often associated with his late mother, Diana.
Contrasting this, Harry’s memoir, Spare, painted William in a less flattering light, even mentioning his “alarming baldness” as detracting from his resemblance to Diana. Dunlop, however, argued that the documentary illustrated how misguided Harry’s views may be, noting, “The Duke of Sussex, blinded by his own sibling-sour grapes, couldn’t be more wrong.”
The historian further highlighted William’s unique ability to connect with both societal leaders and younger generations alike. In his recent work, William has openly acknowledged his inspiration from Diana, aiming to make the “unseen feel seen.” As one charity leader remarked, William has become a “super celebrity” with the platform to bring attention to critical issues like homelessness.
In her concluding thoughts, Dunlop stated, “William has what it takes to lead a compassionate kingship while carrying forward Diana’s legacy.”
