Queen Camilla Honours Duchess Sophie with Heartfelt Gesture at Buckingham Palace Event

Duchess of Edinburgh Recognised at Diplomatic Corps Reception Amid Rising Role

Queen Camilla extended a touching tribute to Duchess Sophie during a grand Diplomatic Corps Reception at Buckingham Palace on November 19.

The event, attended by over 1,500 guests from 130 countries, marked Camilla’s first public appearance following the recent loss of her beloved rescue dog, Beth. Dressed in an elegant blue and black patterned Fiona Clare gown, Camilla joined King Charles III to host the glittering gathering.

In a significant gesture, Camilla wore the Five Aquamarine Tiara, once owned by Queen Elizabeth II and often loaned to Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. This symbolic choice highlighted the close bond between the Queen Consort and Sophie, whose role within the royal family has grown significantly.

Sophie, often regarded as the royal family's "secret weapon," has taken on an increased workload following King Charles and Princess Kate’s cancer diagnoses. Royal expert Jennie Bond previously described Sophie as "a tigress" when championing causes such as women’s rights, while also praising her quiet yet steadfast support for the monarchy.

"She doesn’t complain or demand but simply gets on with supporting the monarch when asked and pursuing her interests the rest of the time," Bond said.

Queen Camilla herself appears inspired by Sophie’s advocacy work. The Queen Consort has raised awareness about domestic abuse in recent public efforts, aligning with Sophie’s passionate championing of social issues.

The heartfelt gesture at Buckingham Palace underscores Sophie’s rising importance in the royal family and the mutual respect shared between her and Queen Camilla.
