Camilla Wins William’s Trust but Fails to Connect with Harry
Queen Camilla has successfully built a strong rapport with Prince William over the years, earning his trust and admiration, according to royal expert Richard Eden. On Reading the Royals, Eden highlighted their evolving bond, describing it as a triumph of Camilla’s "charm offensive."
However, Harry’s perspective paints a contrasting picture. In Spare, he recalls feeling overlooked by Camilla, who he claims prioritised winning over William. Despite a few shared public moments, including their laughter at the 2014 Invictus Games, Harry insists their relationship remained distant.
Harry reveals that he and William once pleaded with King Charles not to marry Camilla, fearing public backlash. He recalls telling their father, “A wedding would cause controversy.” His memoir also expresses frustration over personal changes, such as Camilla transforming his Clarence House bedroom into her dressing room, a shift he admits left him feeling bitter.
Camilla, however, has acknowledged the challenges of her royal role. Writing for Vogue ahead of her 75th birthday, she reflected on the intense public scrutiny, admitting, “It’s not easy... but I think in the end, I rise above it and get on with it."
While her relationship with William appears strong, her connection with Harry remains strained, despite her efforts to navigate royal life under constant scrutiny.
