Royal Couple Criticized for Failing Projects and Dwindling Popularity
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, once hailed as a modern fairy tale, are now facing growing backlash in the United States as public interest in the couple appears to fade.
Their latest Netflix series, Polo, has failed to deliver the impact they hoped for, drawing criticism from both fans and media. A once-supportive magazine reviewed the couple’s efforts with scathing remarks, claiming, “Harry and Meghan's projects can’t stop flopping.”
Writer Danielle Cohen, in a piece for The Cut, slammed the series, comparing it to Markle’s previous ventures. “This one seems bound for the same fate as Markle's beleaguered jam company,” she wrote, adding that the couple’s future plans and roles are increasingly under scrutiny.
Maureen Callahan, writing for the Daily Mail, echoed the sentiment, declaring that America has grown indifferent. “We’ve moved into a new phase of this relationship. Indifference is the death knell for Brand Sussex,” she said, pointing to Harry’s memoir Spare and the couple’s earlier Netflix series as examples of overexposure.
She added, “America has grown bored. We’ve heard and seen it all. They’ve become like the party guest cornered in the room, griping endlessly, as others look for more interesting company.”
US Royal commentator Lee Cohen noted the couple’s diminishing appeal, stating that while they once “epitomised a modern fairy tale,” their popularity in the United States has “significantly cooled.”
As the backlash grows, questions are being raised about the Sussexes’ next steps, with commentators speculating whether they can redefine their brand and regain public interest. For now, America’s love affair with Harry and Meghan seems to be on shaky ground.
