Prince Andrew Faces Final Chance to Keep Royal Lodge for Beatrice and Eugenie

Duke of York Battles Financial Troubles as King Charles Pushes for Frogmore Move

Prince Andrew is holding onto a last glimmer of hope to save Royal Lodge for his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, amid financial challenges and ongoing pressure from King Charles.

The Duke of York, embroiled in a dispute with the King over the 30-room Windsor mansion, risks being relocated to Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Despite presenting “legitimate” income sources to justify staying, the ultimate decision may rest with King Charles and the Crown Estate.

According to property expert Robin Edwards, Andrew could retain Royal Lodge under the terms of his 2003 lease, provided he covers the substantial maintenance costs. “As long as Prince Andrew can continue to pay the not insignificant upkeep costs, the Crown Estate won’t be able to turf him or his descendants out,” Edwards told GB News.

The lease requires Andrew to fund extensive refurbishments, which were estimated at £7.5 million in 2002 ($9.5 million USD). With inflation and additional deterioration, the costs have likely skyrocketed. Photos of the property reveal crumbling stonework, peeling paint, and mould issues, pointing to a significant financial burden.

Andrew’s financial troubles have worsened after King Charles cut off royal funds, leaving him to manage the expenses alone. Whether he can navigate these challenges to secure Royal Lodge for his daughters remains uncertain, but it marks a critical juncture in the Duke’s ongoing efforts to maintain his home.
