Young Royal Balances Academic Pressures and Environmental Awareness
Despite his future role as king, Prince George leads a grounded life at Lambrook School, where his education includes lessons in sustainability and community responsibility. However, the 11-year-old has expressed growing frustrations with certain aspects of his school experience.
One of George’s concerns revolves around litter-picking activities, which are part of his curriculum. Much like his father, Prince William, George is becoming aware of environmental issues but struggles with the recurring sight of rubbish. In a 2021 BBC podcast, William shared how George felt confused and annoyed after repeatedly cleaning the same area only to find it littered again the next day.
William recounted: “George said, ‘We cleaned this. Why has it not gone away?’ He’s trying to understand how and why the problem persists.” This moment highlighted George’s developing awareness of the challenges in making lasting environmental changes, echoing his father’s commitment to sustainability.
Academically, George is also beginning to experience the pressures of school life. Princess Catherine revealed last year that her son had started to feel overwhelmed by constant testing, noting, “George says, ‘Mummy, I keep getting tested all the time.’” She shared this insight during a visit to a Cardiff school, where she empathised with students about the stress of exams.
While George has recently developed an interest in triathlons at school, his parents have remained relatively private about the educational journeys of his younger siblings, who also attend Lambrook.
As the young royal continues to navigate the challenges of academics and environmental advocacy, his experiences reflect the balance his family strives to maintain between normality and preparation for his future role.
