Royal insider shares details on Sophie’s growing role and special celebration
Duchess Sophie, often regarded as the royal family’s “secret weapon,” marked her 60th birthday today amidst speculation about her receiving a new title from King Charles.
According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, while Sophie may not be granted a new title on her milestone day, the King and Queen Camilla are likely to honour her with meaningful gifts and possibly an intimate celebration at Clarence House.
Harrold praised Sophie for her humility and dedication, stating, “She’s very dedicated to her job, her husband, her family, and was very dedicated to the late Queen. She’s now very dedicated to her brother-in-law.”
The Duchess of Edinburgh, who has taken on an increasingly important role in the royal family, has been described as “very crucial,” particularly following the recent health challenges faced by King Charles and Princess Kate.
On the speculation surrounding Sophie’s title, Harrold noted, “I don’t think she will get a new title as she is now the Duchess of Edinburgh, which is already a significant title following the passing of Queen Elizabeth.”
The etiquette expert also revealed that no additional responsibilities are expected for Sophie at this stage. “She and Edward already do a lot and have taken on more over the years,” Harrold explained.
Despite the absence of a new title, Sophie remains a steadfast and respected member of the royal family, celebrated for her unwavering commitment and grace. Her milestone birthday is a moment of recognition for her vital contributions to the monarchy.
