Hidden Moments from Princess Diana and Charles’ Honeymoon Revealed

Rare details emerge from their 1981 Mediterranean escape aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.

New insights have come to light about Princess Diana and then Prince Charles’ 1981 honeymoon, offering a rare glimpse into their private Mediterranean getaway aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Unveiled photographs showcase menu cards from the couple’s time on the yacht, alongside images of a state dinner held just weeks before the tragic assassination of Egyptian President Anwar El-Sadat.

During an episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe and ex-royal head chef Mervyn Wycherley shared behind-the-scenes stories of the intimate trip. Mervyn described the small entourage, consisting of a dresser, two policemen, a private secretary, and the yacht’s 250-member crew.

“The honeymoon was very private,” Mervyn recalled, adding that Diana and Charles’ food preferences reflected simplicity and their love for organic, high-quality ingredients. “[Diana] always treated the staff like family. She wanted the chef and the driver to feel included in this wider royal circle.”

This rare glimpse into the early days of Diana and Charles’ marriage comes shortly after the discovery of a heartfelt letter Diana wrote to her sons, William and Harry, underscoring her enduring warmth and devotion. These intimate details offer a touching look into Diana’s compassionate nature and the personal moments that defined her life.
