Closure of iconic royal greengrocer Partridges marks end of an era for the Firm
King Charles has encountered a bittersweet moment as the beloved royal greengrocer Partridges announced the closure of its flagship store in Chelsea after 53 years. The news came as Prince William and Princess Kate left the UK for a family skiing trip in the Alps with their children.
Partridges, which held a Royal Warrant from Queen Elizabeth since 1994 and more recently from King Charles, has long supplied goods to the royal family. The company’s owner, John Shepherd, expressed sadness over the decision, saying, “We are very sad to be leaving Chelsea after an incredible 53 years serving local residents.”
While the flagship shop is closing, Shepherd noted that the brand remains committed to smaller, sustainable formats across London. “We are proud to have achieved carbon neutrality for our stores and supported hundreds of small artisan businesses,” the statement read.
The announcement coincided with reports of the Prince and Princess of Wales enjoying a relaxing getaway with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Their absence highlighted a challenging moment for King Charles, as Partridges’ closure marks a significant shift for a cherished family tradition.
Despite the disappointment, the legacy of Partridges endures, with the brand focusing on its future while leaving behind decades of service to the royal family and the local community.
