Palace Debates Major Decision as Meghan Markle Pursues Independent Projects
Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020, are reportedly facing increased tensions with the royal family.
Meghan began the year with a high-profile move, releasing the trailer for her upcoming Netflix series. Meanwhile, Harry is focusing on his charitable work as the Sussexes continue to establish their careers outside the royal fold.
Amid their independent pursuits, discussions are reportedly taking place at Buckingham Palace about Harry’s position in the line of succession. Currently fifth in line to the throne, Harry is followed by his two children. Meghan has no involvement in these deliberations.
Any changes to the line of succession would require a lengthy process involving parliamentary approval. However, royal insiders suggest the Palace is actively considering its options.
Royal commentator Phil Dampier told The Sun: “[Harry and Meghan] are trying to maintain a balance between royal ties and independence. They’re still high in the line of succession, but this dual approach presents challenges.”
He continued, “King Charles and his advisors are navigating this delicate issue. If the Sussexes intensify their commercial ventures or continue criticising the royals, the Palace might be forced to reconsider their roles.”
Currently, Harry and Meghan retain their titles and places in the succession line, but Dampier cautioned that rising tensions could push the royal family toward a decisive resolution.
