King Charles III has seemingly delivered a powerful message to his son, Prince Harry, as the Duke of Sussex prepares for the Invictus Games in Vancouver, scheduled from February 8 to 16.
Ahead of Harry’s visit, the Mountain View School Division in Manitoba announced the reintroduction of God Save the King in its daily announcements, a move seen as a tribute to the monarch’s influence and connection to Canada. The anthem will be played alongside O Canada and land acknowledgements in 16 schools across the Dauphin area, marking a return to tradition that had previously been abandoned.
Board chair Jason Gryba explained the decision: “Good governance is about adhering to laws and regulations that are in place, regardless of how often they may have been previously observed.” While the Manitoba teachers' society expressed concerns over the consultation process, the reintroduction underscores the royal family’s enduring presence in Canadian culture.
Prince Harry, who resides in California with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, shared his excitement for the upcoming games. “The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 will offer a global platform to expand the range and profile of winter adaptive sports,” he said, adding that the event will work in partnership with First Nations communities to promote truth and reconciliation.
The revival of God Save the King serves as a symbolic nod to King Charles’s significance within the Commonwealth and coincides with Harry’s high-profile visit.
