Duchess Sophie Prepares for Milestone Year with Major Plans for 2025
Duchess Sophie is set to take on a more prominent role in 2025 as King Charles III continues his cancer treatment. The Duchess of Edinburgh is being recognised for her significant contributions and dedication, especially during a challenging 2024.
Palace officials have stated that the King’s treatment is progressing positively, but contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the monarchy runs smoothly. Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have stepped up, with Sophie completing 239 royal engagements last year—double her previous workload—earning her the title of the fifth hardest-working royal.
Her increased responsibilities came during a year when Princess Kate focused on her health following her cancer diagnosis, and Prince William took time to support his family.
As Sophie approaches her 60th birthday on January 20, royal commentator Jennie Bond praised her commitment and growing recognition.
“I’m so pleased that Sophie is now getting the recognition she so richly deserves,” Bond told The Mirror. “She’s been quietly working away, tackling difficult issues for so many years—always happy to operate under the radar and without a fuss.”
Dubbed King Charles’ “secret weapon,” Sophie is expected to receive a special reward for her tireless efforts. Her work in campaigns such as combatting violence against women in conflict zones and supporting the visually impaired is set to make significant strides this year.
“Sophie will continue her challenging work, playing a vital role in the Firm,” Bond added. “We can expect real progress in her campaigns both at home and abroad.”
With her milestone birthday celebration likely to be a private and intimate affair, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of personal and professional achievements for the Duchess of Edinburgh.
