Thomas Markle Discusses Estranged Relationship and Plans to Leave the US
Thomas Markle, estranged from his daughter Meghan Markle since before her 2018 wedding to Harry, has made surprising revelations about her personal life and their strained relationship.
The Duchess of Sussex recently returned to social media with news of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan. However, her father has now shared rare insights into Meghan’s previous marriage to Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson, which lasted from 2011 to 2014.
“I really liked Trevor,” Thomas, 80, told the Daily Mail, as he displayed videos from Meghan’s first wedding. “I don’t think he ever understood why she dumped him, either.”
In addition to reflecting on Meghan’s past, Thomas expressed his plans to leave the US permanently and move to Southeast Asia, seeking “kinder people” after facing several health issues.
Despite their estrangement, Thomas claimed he is not “fleeing” from his daughter or her children, five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Lilibet, whom he has yet to meet. He added that while Meghan continues to hold a grudge, his “door is always open” for reconciliation.
Meghan has previously accused her father of lying about his interactions with the media during her early relationship with Harry, calling it a “betrayal.” Their relationship remains fractured, but Thomas’s comments highlight his hope for eventual reunion.
