Princess of Wales Begins 2025 with Emotional Engagement and New Role
Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has shed light on her future royal commitments following her first engagement of 2025—a poignant visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received treatment during her battle with cancer last year.
During the visit, Catherine met with patients and staff, marking a significant milestone in her personal and royal journey. It was also announced that the Princess has assumed the role of Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, a position once held by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Catherine will share the patronage with Prince William, who has been the hospital’s president for many years.
In a statement reflecting on her new role, Catherine expressed her commitment to advancing cancer care and research. “My hope is to support groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, to save many more lives of all those impacted by cancer,” she shared.
A Kensington Palace spokesperson highlighted the significance of the engagement: “The Princess wanted to make the journey to both show her gratitude to the incredible team and highlight the world-leading care and treatment the Marsden provides.”
Despite her return to royal duties, the Palace confirmed that Catherine’s public-facing engagements will remain gradual as she focuses on recovery. “Today was about visiting the Marsden to reflect on her own personal journey,” the spokesperson added.
The Princess also reiterated this sentiment, stating, “It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
