Allegations involving a "Chinese spy" deepen the Duke of York’s controversies, sparking fears for the royal family’s future
King Charles III faces mounting challenges as his younger brother, Prince Andrew, becomes embroiled in another damaging scandal. Amid concerns about the King’s health and speculation over potential abdication, the Duke of York’s latest controversy threatens to destabilise the monarchy further.
Royal biographer Andrew Lownie described the unfolding allegations as "the most damaging of Andrew’s scandals, even more so than Epstein." Reports claim that Yang Tengbo, a suspected "Chinese spy" and close confidant of Andrew, was invited to the Duke’s birthday party in 2020 and supported him during prior controversies.
“This story is going to run right through next year,” Lownie told The Sun. “It’s unlocked a series of events that could prove devastating for the monarchy, exposing vulnerabilities in royal finances and raising concerns about transparency.”
Royal insider Phil Dampier added that allowing a suspected spy into royal residences such as Windsor and Buckingham Palace endangered not only the royal family but also the institution of the monarchy. “By permitting such access, Prince Andrew compromised the security of the entire royal household,” Dampier claimed.
The latest allegations have reportedly become a “lump in the throat” for King Charles, who is already grappling with health concerns and other crises within the family. Despite efforts to distance the monarchy from Andrew’s tarnished reputation, insiders suggest the Duke of York’s controversies remain a persistent burden.
As these allegations continue to unfold, the potential fallout threatens to overshadow the King’s efforts to modernise the monarchy, raising critical questions about its future stability.
