Prince Edward Takes on Key Royal Duty in US Amid Prince Harry Speculations

King Charles Assigns Prince Edward to Represent Royals at President Carter’s Funeral

Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, has been entrusted with a significant royal role by King Charles, sparking speculation about a potential meeting with his nephew, Harry.

The younger brother of King Charles will represent the British royal family at the state funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter on Thursday. The late President, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 99, will be honoured in a service attended by prominent figures, including all five living US presidents.

Edward’s wife, Duchess Sophie, will not accompany him to the US, as she prepares for her milestone 60th birthday on January 20. However, speculation has arisen about whether Edward may reunite with Harry during the visit.

Last week, King Charles expressed "great sadness" at the news of President Carter’s passing. Following the state funeral, Carter will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Rosalynn, in a private ceremony in Georgia.

Prince William, often tasked with representing the monarchy on key occasions, is stepping back from this role on this occasion due to a significant family celebration for Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Upon returning to the UK, Edward will join Sophie in celebrating her birthday, marking the culmination of a busy and emotional period for the Duke of Edinburgh. His role underscores the royal family’s efforts to maintain its international presence amid ongoing family dynamics.
