Future King William Poised to Challenge Long-Standing Royal Traditions
Prince William is reportedly preparing to implement significant changes to the monarchy when he eventually ascends the throne, potentially putting Prince George’s future title as Prince of Wales at risk.
Since King Charles III assumed the throne in 2022, he made swift changes, including conferring the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales on William and Kate Middleton within 24 hours of his accession. However, according to royal expert and BBC broadcaster Huw Thomas, William may take a different approach when it comes to continuing this tradition.
“The title is one which is ‘bestowed’ by the reigning monarch to their child,” Thomas explained to The Sun. “It may not be an inherited title, but it is the tradition that the monarch gives their son the title Prince of Wales.”
Thomas added, “I’d be stunned if it disappeared, only because the monarchy is built on tradition. History tells us they stick to tradition.” Despite this, he speculated that William, who has indicated he intends to modernise the monarchy, might choose not to follow in Charles’s footsteps.
William’s plans to reshape the royal institution have sparked debate among royal watchers. A palace insider told InTouch Weekly that the future king is expected to take a firmer stance on internal matters, stating, “It’s no secret that anyone who pushes back against him will be swiftly shown the door. He’s not willing to take any nonsense.”
This approach positions William as a potentially transformative leader, intent on balancing tradition with a modern vision for the monarchy. While the exact changes he plans remain uncertain, his decisions could mark a turning point in royal history, influencing not only his reign but also the future roles of his children, including Prince George.
