Vanity Fair report sparks debate while Sussexes dismiss allegations
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found themselves at the center of another controversy following claims in a Vanity Fair article about their alleged plans for a divorce. A friend of the couple has spoken out, calling the allegations “unfair” and baseless, while Harry and Meghan continue to refute the rumours.
The Vanity Fair article suggested that Meghan’s team had reportedly approached a publisher to gauge interest in a book about life after a potential divorce from Harry. However, no formal proposals or manuscripts were ever created.
“The divorce story seemed very unfair. There was a book, but there wasn’t a book. She was planning for life after divorce, but they are totally in love? What? There was not a shred of evidence,” a friend of the couple told The Daily Beast.
The article also noted conflicting accounts, with sources close to the Sussexes insisting the couple is “deeply in love” and still “so hot for each other.”
Responding to the renewed speculation, the friend added, “Things aren’t easy for them right now, and this has succeeded in making a bad time worse.”
Prince Harry previously dismissed similar rumours at the 2024 DealBook Summit in New York, joking, “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times.”
Meanwhile, British commentator Piers Morgan criticised the couple’s recent public appearances at Los Angeles fire relief centers, accusing them of “cynical” self-promotion. He described their visits as “disaster tourism,” stating, “I’m afraid I’m very cynical. I think it’s purely for self-promotional reasons.”
Despite the controversies, the Sussexes remain focused on their public work and charitable efforts, while their supporters continue to defend their relationship and intentions.
