Sussexes quietly aid survivors despite facing fresh criticism in Montecito
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been commended for their compassionate efforts to support Southern California wildfire survivors, even as they navigate fresh controversy at home.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reside in Montecito, stepped up during the devastating wildfires that consumed thousands of acres and left many families homeless. In a low-profile appearance, the couple joined José Andrés of World Central Kitchen (WCK) in Pasadena to distribute supplies to survivors of the Eaton fire.
Alongside their personal involvement, Harry and Meghan also made a significant monetary donation and contributed essential supplies to aid the relief efforts.
Andrés, the founder of WCK, lauded their actions, telling People magazine, “They don’t have to do this, but they choose to. Showing up to help, even when it’s easier not to, is what truly matters.” He added, “The hugs they gave — to those who recognised them and those who didn’t — were a genuine source of comfort for people who just needed someone to care.”
These heartfelt actions come in the wake of a Vanity Fair report alleging some Montecito neighbours have branded the Sussexes as “local villains” for turning the area into a tourist hotspot.
Despite the criticism, Harry and Meghan’s commitment to aiding wildfire survivors highlights their dedication to making a positive impact, reinforcing their efforts to lead with compassion amid ongoing public scrutiny.
