Prince Harry Secures Monumental Victory in Legal Case Settlement

The Duke of Sussex’s fight exposes years of media misconduct and unethical practices

Prince Harry has celebrated a significant milestone in his legal battle against News Group Newspapers (NGN), publishers of The Sun, describing the settlement as a “monumental victory” in his ongoing efforts to hold media organisations accountable for unethical behaviour.

The settlement, reached just before the trial was set to begin, includes admissions from News UK, NGN’s parent company, acknowledging illegal activities. These include unlawful practices by The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World, targeting both Prince Harry and former Labour Deputy Leader Lord Tom Watson.

In a statement delivered by his barrister, David Sherborne, the Duke of Sussex expressed frustration over “aggressive and vengeful coverage” of his family, which he believes intensified during the five years he pursued the case.

The case’s resolution, attributed to the perseverance of both Prince Harry and Lord Watson, forced NGN to admit to years of misconduct within Rupert Murdoch’s UK media empire. The settlement has been described as a pivotal moment in exposing systemic issues within parts of the UK press.

“This is not just about me,” Harry stated. “It’s about accountability and ensuring that others impacted by unethical journalism have a voice.”

The outcome marks a defining moment in Prince Harry’s campaign to reform the UK media, spotlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability within the press.
