Duke of Sussex Prepares for High Court Battle as Meghan Stays in California
Prince Harry has made the decision to return to the UK solo for his ongoing legal case, even as Meghan Markle expressed concerns about his trip.
The Duke of Sussex will appear at the High Court next month as part of a lawsuit against News Group Newspapers (NGN), alleging unlawful information-gathering and privacy invasion. The trial, which is expected to last seven weeks, will include Harry being cross-examined by the publisher’s legal team.
Meghan, however, has opted to stay in Montecito, California, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Reports suggest the Duchess of Sussex remains hesitant about returning to the UK, with claims from journalist Omid Scobie in his book Endgame that Meghan "never wants to step foot in England again," citing her discomfort during her time in the royal family.
Additionally, sources have indicated Meghan has cautioned Harry against making compromises that could affect his dignity and respect. In 2023, Meghan reportedly wrote to King Charles seeking a meeting to address her grievances about the challenges she faced as a member of the monarchy. Royal expert Neil Sean commented, “Meghan wanted answers from the King and sent him a letter to explain the difficulties she’s encountered.”
Harry has also voiced concerns about his family’s safety in the UK due to the lack of police protection, an issue he has legally challenged in the past.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have focused on building their lives in California. However, Harry’s decision to return for this high-profile legal case underscores his commitment to pursuing justice, even as tensions remain between the Sussexes and the royal family.
