Royal brothers devastated by loss in New Year’s Day attack
Prince William and Prince Harry are mourning the tragic death of Edward Pettifer, the stepson of their former nanny, following a violent attack on New Year’s Day in New Orleans.
Edward Pettifer, the eldest son of Charles Pettifer, had a familial connection to the royal brothers, who were under Charles Pettifer’s care between 1993 and 1999. Both William and Harry attended Pettifer’s second wedding in 1999.
A statement released by Edward’s grieving family expressed their devastation:
“The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed's death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to so many. We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their loved ones in this terrible attack.
“We request that we can grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”
King Charles III also shared his sorrow over the tragedy, expressing his condolences for the loss of precious lives in the attack.
The heartbreaking news adds to a somber start to the year for the royal family, uniting the estranged brothers in shared grief during this challenging time.
