The Waleses adopt a modern, corporate approach to redefine their royal roles
Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, have introduced a series of modernising changes that have ignited speculation about King Charles’ potential abdication amid his ongoing cancer treatment.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly moving away from the traditional royal model by replacing “grey men,” the Palace courtiers, with experts from the corporate sector to handle their affairs. The appointment of a former Tesco CEO to lead their Royal Foundation reflects their intent to professionalise and streamline operations.
Royal expert Jennie Bond commented on the couple’s transformative approach, saying, “The Waleses have stepped outside the Palace walls in more ways than one. They are bypassing traditional courtiers and taking much more direct control of their affairs.”
While some plans were temporarily paused during Catherine’s recovery, the couple’s focus on reshaping their roles remains clear. William has also shared his vision for a “modern monarchy,” pledging to adapt to the needs of his generation with “a smaller r in the royal.”
Beyond their professional changes, William and Catherine are dedicated to giving their children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—a grounded and normal upbringing, despite the family’s high-profile status.
