Prince William’s Love for Harry Captured in £10,000 Auction Surprise

Diana's Touching Letter Reflects Early Bond Between Royal Brothers

A heartwarming letter from Diana, Princess of Wales, showcasing Prince William’s early adoration for his younger brother, Prince Harry, has fetched an astonishing £10,000 at auction—nearly ten times its initial estimate.

The handwritten two-page note, penned shortly after Harry’s birth in September 1984, provides a rare glimpse into royal family life. Addressed to Violet Collison, the head housekeeper for Diana’s parents at Sandringham, the letter was written on Kensington Palace stationery.

In the letter, Diana shared her joy over William’s affectionate relationship with his newborn brother, writing, “William adores his little brother and spends the entire time pouring an endless supply of hugs and kisses over Harry.” With characteristic humour, she added, “It’s wonderful to watch, if we’re allowed near!”

The note, initially valued at £1,200, became the centrepiece of a sale at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers, highlighting the enduring fascination with Diana’s personal life and legacy.

Written as a thank-you for Harry’s first Christmas present, the letter is a poignant reminder of Diana’s warmth and her ability to connect deeply with others through her heartfelt words.

While the letter reflects a time of familial closeness, the current estrangement between William and Harry adds a bittersweet layer to this treasured piece of history.
