Harry and Meghan Release Joint Statement Before Departing US for Canada

Duke and Duchess address wildfire relief efforts ahead of Invictus Games trip

Harry and Meghan Markle have issued a significant statement before leaving the United States for an important engagement in Canada. The couple’s announcement comes just weeks after wildfires threatened their Montecito mansion and devastated parts of Southern California.

Harry, who founded the Invictus Games a decade ago, is set to launch the latest instalment of the event in Vancouver and Whistler. Before departing, he and Meghan, through their Archewell Foundation, addressed the ongoing impact of the wildfires, particularly on children affected by the disaster.

“When communities around the world are struck with disaster, children need more than just shelter—they need stability, support, and the space to play,” their statement read.

Highlighting their support for Project:Camp, an initiative providing free, trauma-informed day camps for children during emergencies, the couple emphasised the importance of mental health and childcare in disaster response. “With the support of trained camp counsellors, Project:Camp ensures that youth have a safe space to heal and process, while also giving parents and caregivers the time to rebuild and plan for what comes next.”

The statement further noted that their foundation is “proud” to champion efforts ensuring that childcare and mental health support become integral to future emergency response strategies.

The couple had previously contributed to relief efforts and opened their home to friends and family affected by the crisis. Their departure to Canada marks another key event in their ongoing philanthropic work.
