Monarch Pays Tribute to Namibia’s Former President in Emotional Address
King Charles has shared a deeply moving statement mourning the loss of Namibia’s former president, Sam Nujoma, who passed away at the age of 95.
In his tribute, the King expressed profound sadness, acknowledging Nujoma’s immense contributions to his country. “My wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the death of former President Sam Nujoma today,” he stated.
Praising Nujoma’s leadership, the monarch highlighted his role in securing Namibia’s independence and his subsequent 15-year tenure as the nation’s founding president. “His lifelong commitment to freedom and democracy, overcoming so much adversity on that journey, was truly inspirational,” Charles said.
The King also reflected on Queen Elizabeth II’s state visit to Namibia in 1991, recalling the gracious hospitality extended by President Nujoma during the historic event. He noted that Nujoma’s legacy continues to shape Namibia as a valued member of the Commonwealth, upholding the principles of peace and democracy.
At the close of his statement, King Charles extended his “deepest sympathy and prayers” to former First Lady Kovambo Nujoma, their family, and the people of Namibia during this difficult time.
The King’s heartfelt message comes shortly after Prince Harry delighted Britons with a sweet gesture during the Invictus Games, where he celebrated a British couple’s engagement at the event.
