Monarch Retires from the Slopes as He Focuses on Health
King Charles has officially retired from skiing, citing his ongoing cancer treatment as the reason for ending his decades-long love for the sport.
During a visit to Middlesbrough’s SeAH Wind factory, the 76-year-old monarch revealed to a Swiss employee that his "skiing days are behind him." His decision follows his recent diagnosis of an undisclosed form of cancer, discovered after a routine procedure for an enlarged prostate. The King is currently undergoing weekly treatment.
Skiing has been a cherished pastime for Charles since he first took to the slopes at 14. For decades, he was a regular visitor to the Swiss resort of Klosters, where his passion for the sport was recognised with two cable cars named in his honour. His final planned ski trip in 2023 was cancelled to prevent injuries ahead of his Coronation.
In the 1980s, Charles and Princess Diana often skied in Klosters, sometimes joined by the Duke of York and his wife. Later, in the 1990s, he shared the slopes with his sons, William and Harry, frequently photographed skiing and tobogganing.
Now, as he prioritises his health, the King has officially left skiing behind, marking the end of an era for a monarch who long embraced the Alpine lifestyle.
