Monarch Accepts Distance as Relationship with Son and Grandchildren Remains Strained
King Charles appears content with Prince Harry’s continued stay in the United States as tensions between father and son persist. The monarch reportedly has little contact with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, due to the ongoing estrangement.
A royal insider revealed that the King’s strained bond with Harry has made it difficult for him to develop a meaningful relationship with the Sussex children, according to GB News.
Since relocating to the US, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, have not returned to the UK since 2022, with Lilibet having met her grandfather only once. While Harry has made brief visits to Britain, he has no plans to bring Meghan Markle or their children back.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump recently commented on the legal debate surrounding Harry’s immigration status, stating he would not intervene. “I don’t want to do that, I’ll leave him alone,” Trump said on Friday. However, he was far more critical of Meghan Markle, adding, “He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
Following Trump’s remarks, a royal insider suggested that King Charles has accepted the distance between him and Harry, finding a sense of peace in the situation.
“Harry and Meghan have been a source of strain and concern for His Majesty. While he regrets not having a closer bond with his grandchildren, the distance allows him peace of mind,” the source told The Daily Mail.
Despite the fractured relationship with the Sussexes, King Charles remains closely connected with other senior royals, including Prince William. In a diplomatic move, the King personally extended congratulations to Donald Trump following his historic second inauguration as US President.
