Meghan Markle’s £24K Private Jet Trip Sparks Climate Controversy

Duchess Faces Scrutiny Over Carbon Footprint Amid Sustainability Advocacy

Meghan Markle’s solo private jet journey from Vancouver to California has raised concerns over its environmental impact, with estimates suggesting the trip cost up to £24,000 and generated 6.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Following the Invictus Games winter event, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, made a brief, unexplained stop in Seattle before landing in Santa Barbara. She reportedly used the same luxury Bombardier CL-600 jet for the outbound journey, an aircraft that consumes approximately 800 gallons of fuel every three hours.

Despite previously championing environmental causes, Meghan’s flight emissions equated to the weight of a large elephant. The aircraft, which can accommodate up to ten passengers, has a range exceeding 5,000 miles, with charter costs estimated between £5,500 and £8,000 per hour, according to GB News.

Her early departure from Vancouver was pre-arranged, reflecting her attendance pattern at the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany, where she also stayed for just five days. Palace aides confirmed Meghan had always intended to return early to Montecito to reunite with her children.

This year’s Invictus Games marks the event’s seventh edition and its first winter games. However, as Harry and Meghan continue to advocate for sustainability, their frequent use of private jets remains a point of contention, fuelling debate over their environmental commitments versus their lifestyle choices.
