Duke of York reportedly seen as a ‘valuable communication channel’ by Beijing
Newly unsealed court documents have exposed Prince Andrew’s connections to an alleged Chinese spy, adding further controversy to his already embattled reputation.
According to papers reviewed by The Sunday Times, the Duke of York was viewed as a “valuable communication channel” by China due to his association with businessman Yang Tengbo, 50, who has been accused of espionage.
Their ties reportedly began in 2013 at an exclusive reception during the Shanghai Grand Prix. Yang, introduced to Andrew through high-profile business circles, later became a trusted figure in some of the prince’s ventures.
Following warnings from the UK Government, Andrew “ceased all contact” with Yang, who has denied any involvement in espionage. However, the controversy reportedly played a role in the Duke’s decision to skip Christmas at Sandringham, opting instead to stay at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Yang recently lost an appeal to overturn his UK entry ban, further intensifying scrutiny over his past links to the British royal.
As Prince Andrew remains entangled in multiple scandals, this latest revelation deepens the challenges surrounding his public image and royal standing.
