Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie Embark on Landmark Nepal Tour

Royal couple to strengthen diplomatic ties and champion key social causes

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are set to undertake a historic six-day royal tour of Nepal from February 4 to 9, marking their first official visit to the Himalayan nation.

The tour will focus on youth empowerment, healthcare, women’s rights, and conservation, continuing the long-standing royal connection with Nepal. Their visit follows King Charles III’s 1998 trip as Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s official visit in 1986.

A key moment of the tour will be their attendance at the annual Attestation Parade in Pokhara, where new Nepali recruits will formally join the British Army. They will also engage with the Gurkha Welfare Trust to learn about its efforts in supporting veterans and their families.

The couple’s itinerary includes meetings with young participants of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award programme, as well as discussions with women’s rights advocates working to combat gender-based violence and human trafficking. Additionally, they will visit healthcare initiatives providing essential services to vulnerable communities.

The tour will conclude in Ghandruk, where the Duke and Duchess will immerse themselves in Nepal’s cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes.
