Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie Deliver King Charles’ Message in Nepal

Royal Couple Wrap Up Final Engagements Before Returning to the UK

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have concluded their visit to Nepal, completing their final engagements before returning to the UK.

During their tour, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie spent the night in the picturesque village of Ghandruk, which overlooks the Himalayas. Their stay followed a trek through the Annapurna Conservation Area on Saturday, where they explored the region’s deep-rooted historical ties with the Gurkhas.

As the couple descended into the village, they were warmly welcomed by locals dressed in vibrant attire, who presented them with flowers and yellow garlands in a show of traditional hospitality.

While in Nepal, Prince Edward delivered an important message on behalf of King Charles to Gurkha recruits preparing to join the British Army. Addressing the new soldiers, he expressed gratitude for their service, saying, “Thank you for choosing to serve in the Brigade of Gurkhas in the British Army, and thank you for swearing allegiance to His Majesty today.”

He continued, “You are joining a regimental family with strong traditions and a reputation for loyalty, service and courage. Gurkhas have served the Crown for over 209 years. This now becomes your heritage and your responsibility to uphold.”

Acknowledging the sacrifices of the recruits, Edward added, “You will be living and serving a long way from home, which makes your decision even more impressive. On behalf of King Charles and all the British people, we really do thank you and admire your decision. Finally, always remember, you are a soldier in the British Army, but you are a son of Nepal. Be proud of both.”

With their commitments in Nepal now complete, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are set to return to the UK after a meaningful visit honouring the Gurkha legacy and strengthening ties between the two nations.
