Public Perception Shifts Amid Criticism from Former Royal Butler
Harry is increasingly being viewed as more of a celebrity than a royal, according to a new report highlighting the changing public perception of the Duke of Sussex.
Grant Harrold, a former royal butler, expressed his disappointment with Harry’s life in the US during an interview with GB News, pointing out the inconsistencies in the Sussexes’ actions. “They keep stressing they want privacy but then they’re doing documentaries and inviting cameras into their homes. It’s confusing and frustrating for many,” Harrold remarked.
Despite this, Harrold acknowledged that many royal fans still hold Harry in high regard, stating, “A lot of people still have a lot of love for Harry.” Reflecting on Harry’s decision to step down from royal duties, Harrold admitted, “It’s hard to pinpoint how things have gone so wrong. There were high hopes after the marriage, but it didn’t unfold as expected.”
A recent Ipsos survey further reveals the shift in public opinion. Only 21% of participants view Harry primarily as a royal, while 40% see him more as a celebrity. Another 20% believe he embodies both roles.
The survey also showed a widening gap in popularity among royals. While 43% of respondents hold a negative opinion of Harry, only 15% feel similarly about Prince William. Meghan Markle’s unfavorable ratings were higher at 54%, compared to just 12% for Catherine.
Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have focused on commercial ventures, including Meghan’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. Harry’s visits to the UK have been rare, mainly limited to private trips and his recent legal battle with The Sun, which was settled in January.
