Duke of Sussex Reflects on Canada’s Role in His and Meghan Markle’s Transition
Prince Harry has revealed previously undisclosed details about his and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal life, speaking candidly during an interview at the Invictus Games 2025.
As reported by Daily Mail, the Duke of Sussex praised Canada for its kindness and support during their transition in 2020.
"Canada's been really good to my wife over all these years, and it's been really good to us as well," Harry shared during his conversation with Canada’s CTV channel.
Recalling their time on Vancouver Island with their son Archie, he added, "Certainly, in 2020, it was amazing for us to be able to be in Canada—Vancouver Island—with Archie and be able to go for hikes and be in amongst the local town and feel protected by that."
Harry disclosed that his family lived peacefully for "more than six weeks" before their location became public knowledge.
"We were bumping into people the whole time—nobody told anybody. Yes, they told other people, but there's not too much of a media, kind of pap culture on Vancouver Island," he explained.
Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reside in Montecito, California, where they live with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
