Duke of Sussex fights for increased protection as risks escalate
Prince Harry is reportedly taking decisive steps to safeguard Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, as concerns over security threats and potential kidnapping plots grow.
Paul Burrell, former butler to Princess Diana, has highlighted the dangers royals face, referencing a 1994 assassination attempt on then-Prince Charles as an example of ongoing risks. “The threat is huge… Harry is more worried about his wife and his kids and the risk of kidnapping plots,” Burrell stated.
He further explained that Harry’s high-profile status increases security concerns: “The more he does in the public as a celebrity, the more he could become a target.”
As a result, the Duke of Sussex has launched a fresh legal challenge, appealing a High Court ruling that upheld the UK Home Office’s decision to downgrade his security protection after stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Harry remains determined to ensure his children can visit Britain safely and create lasting memories of their father’s homeland.
Burrell praised Harry’s decision to prioritise security, stating: “This is very important to him. Security is a big part of the royal household. They offer security detail the minute they become engaged to a member of the Royal Family, and I witnessed that when Catherine became engaged.”
Meanwhile, security expert Grant Harrold echoed these concerns, telling Techopedia: “People in the armed forces and the police have individual threats due to the nature of what they do, but being a member of the royal family is also a threat.”
As Harry continues his legal battle, he remains focused on ensuring Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet are fully protected—both in the U.S. and during any future visits to the UK.
