Royal Couple’s Rare PDA Moment Triggers Debate Amid Meghan’s Absence
Prince William and Catherine surprised fans with an affectionate Valentine’s Day post, prompting speculation that it was a subtle message amid Meghan Markle’s solo return to Montecito.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a rare public display of affection on their official social media accounts, posting a photo of William kissing a gleeful Catherine. The couple, known for their typically reserved public appearances, seemed to embrace the holiday with a lighthearted and romantic gesture.
However, some online users interpreted the timing of the post as a playful jab at Meghan, who spent Valentine's Day away from Harry while he remained in Canada for the Invictus Games. The post sparked an online debate, with some seeing it as a simple romantic moment, while others speculated it was a pointed contrast to Meghan’s situation.
Traditionally, William and Catherine have kept public affection to a minimum. However, etiquette expert Myka Meier, founder of Beaumont Etiquette, told People magazine that there is “no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA.” Their typical restraint, she explained, is likely a reflection of their roles as senior royals.
Meanwhile, a resurfaced blog post from 2015 revealed Meghan’s thoughts on the holiday. Describing herself as a “sucker for Valentine’s Day”, she wrote, “This Valentine’s Day, I will be with friends, running amok through the streets of New York.”
As speculation continues, William and Catherine’s rare display of affection has only added fuel to discussions surrounding the dynamics between the royal couples.
